Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils Baby Doll - Review

June 26, 2013

I'm very picky when it comes to mascara and how I want my lashes to look. My lashes are super straight, long, and thick on their own. So when I'm searching for a great mascara, I'm looking for something that can hold curl and not get clumpy. I was really interested in trying a high end mascara and ended up getting this one from YSL. I bought it from the YSL website and I got the color Fetish Black. Find out how this mascara worked for me below!

More information about the YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils Baby Doll:
With one stroke our brush and patented formula magnifies your eyes through the innovative structure of dual-length bristles and intense color pigment for defined volume that last for 24 hours.  The multifaceted brush alternates thick, widely spaced bristles to coat and magnify your lashes, while finer, more closely spaced bristles define even the shortest lashes, one by one, from the root to the tip.

I really wanted to love this mascara, but it just didn't happen. I tried using it in all kind of different ways, using less and more coats, and it still gave me a look to my lashes that wasn't the greatest.

The first thing I noticed was the perfume smell that this mascara has. It's not too strong but its apparent and I didn't care for it. It didn't irritate my eyes or my contacts which was good. Then once I applied the mascara it was really clumpy, making my lashes stick to each other. I applied another coat to kind of see if it would help separate my lashes but it didn't. The pictures above are with 2 coats of the mascara. I ended up getting no length, clumpy lashes, and my curl was gone. The only thing I did enjoy was how black and dark it made my lashes. I love a good pigmented black mascara, but the fails in this mascara were too many to make it okay.

I was hoping to really love this mascara but my lashes were not happy. I've used many high end mascaras, even drugstores ones, that gave me better looking lashes.

Recommend? From the results that I ended up with, I don't. You might have a very different experience than me but it is definitely not worth the high price in my opinion.

Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils Baby Doll retails for $30 and can be found on the Sephora website or YSL online.

Let me know your thoughts on this mascara!

  1. I think this looks okay on your lashes, but some of the ones from the drugstore work just as good, if not better! Have you tried Maybelline the rocket? That's my personal favorite :) Nice review Stephanie!

  2. I love Maybelline mascaras but I haven't tried The Rocket. I'm going to have to give that one a try though, thank you! :D

Hi, thanks for your review, I found this mascara to be average on my lashes too, which is a pity as I had high hopes. Check out my review at: http://beyoutifulbeautyblog.com/2013/09/01/41/
