Rimmel Scandaleyes London Waterproof Gel Eyeliner - Review

July 1, 2012

I saw this new Rimmel waterproof gel eyeliner at CVS, and decided I would give it a try. I never usually use gel eyeliner, only liquid, so this was fairly new for me to get used to applying with a brush. I have actually wanted to switch to gel liner for a while, since the liquid liner from MAC was not cutting it. Here is my review and a swatch.

Here is more about the waterproof gel eyeliner:
Subtle or bold eyeliner look that lasts all day! Long lasting gel formula with Intense colour pigments. Applies easily with built-in brush applicator  Waterproof formula stays in place all day- won’t budge or smudge!

The application for me was difficult with the brush that it came with. I ended up using a liner brush that I had and it made it easier to use. The gel liner itself was not what I expected. As I was applying it, the pigmentation seemed dull and not a dark black that I was looking for. Every time I tried to make it darker, the liner would come off and not stay put. I did try this a couple of times and I just couldn't get it how I wanted it to look. I ended up wearing it, but under my usual eyeliner. It made my eyeliner stay put all day and waterproof which was good. But I don't want to have to layer eyeliners all the time.

I'm sure it has to do with the fact that I'm such a novice when it comes to gel eyeliner. I just couldn't seem to get it to work for me. Anyone have some gel eyeliner tips? I don't want it to go to waste, so I'm going to keep it and see how it goes. I ended up paying $6.99 for this at CVS. Do I regret buying it? For me, yes. If you are a gel eyeliner lover, you might like this and it will probably work better for you than it did for me.

Have you tried this? Let me know what you think!

  1. worst beauty buy ever for me, ive been wearing eyeliner for quite a while now and needed a waterproof version because i live in quite a rainy country: not only it is not waterproof but it smudges like hell, after an hour it had slid all the way on my under eyes :/ it well deserves the bin but i hate wasting so ill try to find another use, maybe smudge it for a smokey eye... dunno. A good one if you wanna try, is the maybelline eyestudio lasting drama gel liner, it comes with a little brush that is quite handy but its not waterproof :)

  2. My favorite gel liner is the  Physicians Formula GelCream liners, they are amazing! I'm terrrible at applying gel liner, but those go on so easily, you don't need to be an expert!! :)

  3. I have one of Maybelline, to be honest the brush feels kind of annoying in the rim, it is a kind of tickle, not sure how to explain it, it feels so different than using a pencil, I don't get it right either yet.
