Benefit They're Real! Push Up Liner - Review

July 7, 2014

Today I have my review on the new and hyped Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner. My HG liner is the Milani Eye Tech eyeliner, and it just so happens that I needed to either buy a new one or switch. I decided since this liner is talked about SO much, that I needed to try it for myself. Find out my thoughts and more info below!

More information on the Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner:

Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner is the first fool-proof and budge-proof gel liner in a pen. A gorgeous way to open up eyes, this matte black gel formula won’t dry out, and its cutting-edge tip ensures a precise line every time.

When I first used this liner, I tried twisting it on the bottom, which is said to take about 10-20 times. I think I had to twist it about 50-60 times, which was making me think it was a bad one since it took forever to even get it started. Applying the liner was smooth at first, but you have to work fast. The first problem I had was when I was trying to apply it close to the inner corner of my eyes and it was making it too thick. I usually like my liner to be thin closer to the inside and thicker going outward. I had to use a different liner to get a thin line like I prefer.

I’m really bad at applying gel liner with a brush and always prefer just a regular liquid liner with a sponge thin tip. I figured this Push-Up Liner would be a great way to use gel in the same sense as a regular liquid liner. One thing I did love was how black the liner looks. This is one of the darkest and blackest liners I’ve used and I love that. The actual tip that the gel comes in does not give me a thin enough line and it even makes it more difficult to make it straight and even. Usually I can go over my liner to make it more thicker if I want or more straight. I can’t do that with this one because it dries too quickly. Once it’s dry and you try to go over it, it starts to flake off and makes the liner you have come right off.

I tried it a couple of more times and made sure I applied it quickly and didn’t wait for it to dry. It ended up working better and didn’t come off like before. I still couldn’t get it thin enough in the inner part of my eye but the rest was fine. It lasted all day long and didn’t budge. I’m really on the fence still about this liner. I love it because it’s gel in a pen form making it easier for those (like me) that want gel but have a hard time using it with a brush. The price point is a bit steep but I understand why. Is it worth it? That all depends on what you are looking for in an eyeliner. It's not an HG product for me, but I do like it and will continue to use it.

Benefit They're Real! Push-Up Liner retails for $24 and can found at Sephora, Ulta, and on various online stores.

Let me know your thoughts!

  1. I saw a big display at ULTA today with those liners and you're right - they are much hyped. I didn't get any although I was tempted. I mean it seems that everyone is using this stuff now and loving it. But I am glad I passed on it now. I like to put my liner on the same as you thinner on the inner lid and a heavier line toward the outer edge. You might like Jesse's Girl liner. I have been using it for 3 weeks now and I love it. It's my new favorite and I am super picky about liners.
