E.L.F. Studio Lip Stain in Heartbreaker - Swatch and Review

March 21, 2011

I have to be upfront and say that I absolutely hate lip stains. Even with all the lip stains that have been coming out with different brands, I just can't seem to buy any of them. So when I saw this E.L.F. lip stain at Target, I was so ready to put it down and not get it. This one was on clearance for $1.98 (they are normally $3) so I didn't see any loss if I hated it.

Here is how E.L.F. describes these lip stains:
Achieve full coverage that lasts for hours with this long-wear formula. Enjoy silky matte color or layer on the moisturizing clear gloss for a shiny look. With key Vitamins A & E your lips stay smooth all day long.
Now, I will agree that the matte color was silky and smooth. This color is the perfect peachy nude color that is very subtle. It didn't feel like a stain at all when I was putting it on. Felt like a lipgloss and then it dried to a matte finish. Then I used the gloss for the shine, which I did really enjoy. Also, my lips needed some moisture and I was very surprised that my lips felt really soft while I had this on. What I don't really agree with is the "Achieve full coverage that lasts for hours" part. Granted it doesn't say for how many hours, but mine stayed on for about one hour, then I needed to reapply. Full coverage? No, this is not a full coverage kind of lip stain. It just gives you a very nice appealing color to your lips. That's it, and that is all I expect from a lip product for $3. More pleased than I was disappointed. I would definitely buy more.

Do you have any of these E.L.F. Studio Lip Stains? Do you feel the same way?

  1. ELF never fail to deliver good products at dirt cheap products so it doesn't even bother me that this wasn't a 100% positive review! Everything I try seems to be ace at literally a few pounds. How do they do it?!

  2. I usually don't believe in those claims of "long-lasting" lip colour anyway. I've liked the few elf products I've tried though, so I'll look for this! I only wish we had a store here that carried a wider range of them!

    Thanks for the review :)

  5. Pretty color! I got a bright color lip stain from them and felt it dried out my lips and the gloss wasn't much help :/ Maybe they have a new formula. I much prefer the conditioning lip balm!
