Almay Smart Shade CC Cream in Light/Medium - Review

May 31, 2013

I just recently reviewed a CC cream and it didn't go too well. This time around I tried a new one from Almay and my experience was a lot better. There are three shades available from Almay: light, light/medium, and medium. I bought light/medium and it was the right shade for me. I wasn't sure what to think trying out another CC cream, so read my review below to find out how my experience went.

More information about the Almay Smart Shade CC Cream:
Almay new Smart Shade CC cream is the perfect marriage of lightweight foundation + clarity enhancing skin care for beautiful coverage now and beautiful skin later. The lightweight formula:

Instantly:
1. Covers imperfections flawlessly
2. Corrects discolorations

Over time:
1. Brightens and evens natural skin tone
2. Helps prevent future damage with SPF 35

Smell: Very faint sunscreen smell. Nothing offensive or too strong.

Application: As I was applying the CC cream, the first thing I noticed was how silky it felt and not sticky. The previous CC cream I tried was sticky and awful. It covered okay and evened out my skin tone. I'm definitely able to wear this alone and be fine with the coverage. I didn't have any problem with oxidizing and it didn't dry out my skin. It felt moisturizing throughout the day and my skin looked fresh. It didn't look any different than a BB cream or tinted moisturizer though. I do love that it has an SPF 35, it's so important that a face product like this has an SPF.

I have small discoloration on my cheek that I have been covering with this. It claims to correct that over time which I haven't used it long enough to tell you if it works for that just yet. I will updated in a few more weeks and will let you know if it did anything. So far using this for about 2 weeks, I haven't noticed a difference.

Recommend? Another CC cream that didn't really impress. If you like the coverage of a BB cream or tinted moisturizer and you need it to be really moisturizing than you could try this out. It feels nice on the skin and does even out skin tone. But it's not a must have product.

Almay Smart Shade CC Cream retails for $9.99 and can be found at Ulta, CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, or where Almay is sold.

Let me know your thoughts on CC creams!

  1. I haven't been hearing many good reviews for CC creams at all :/ I think CC creams, and especially BB creams are just over-used. So many things are called a CC or BB cream when they really just aren't! Nice review!
