Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation - Review

December 21, 2012

A good full coverage foundation is always hard for me to find. I need something that's not going to make my skin look more dry than it already is. I've heard good things about this foundation from others, so I figured I would give it a try. First match at one Sephora was completely wrong, so I had to take it back and match it myself. I've been using this foundation for weeks now, did I love it? See my review below!

More information on this foundation from the Sephora website:
Kat created this foundation to provide exceptional coverage, without compromising a smooth, striking finish. Formulated with 21 percent pigment, this powerful formula was developed to match a broad range of skintones with bold coverage—the proprietary pigments can even effectively cover tattoos. The combination of raw materials and the best siliconic elastomers and siliconic esters provide 24-hour wear with transfer resistance. Natural polymers absorb oil for a matte, soft finish and the added emollients provide a velvety texture for perfectly smooth, hydrated skin.

My review:
I'm shade Medium 52 in this foundation. I have to say something first about the packaging. I love the packaging and the detail it has on the bottle. The pump is easy to work with and you don't get too much product. The foundation is definitely full coverage and I usually only need a less than a pump for my whole face. I make sure and use a brush when using this foundation to make sure it blends in really well. It is also long lasting, for more than 12 hours! No budging and transfer resistant.
One thing I did notice was that it says fragrance free and I could still smell something to the foundation. Maybe it's the way the ingredients are incorporated together, but the smell bothered me at first. Now that I have used it for a while, it doesn't. Just something that confused me.
Overall, it's a great foundation and you are getting what you pay for. This one bottle should last me a while since I change foundations frequently. I won't use this everyday, just mainly for special occasions or when I really need full coverage.

Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation retails for $34 and can be found at Sephora stores or online at Sephora.com

Have you tried this foundation? Let me know your thoughts!

  1. I really wanted to love that foundation but I can't find my right shade ( I am totally i between shades) and it does not cover my hyper-pigmentation :( But if you only have a few blemishes I would recommend this too.
