E.L.F. Cosmetics Essentials Eyelid Primers - Review

October 26, 2011

I bought these eyelid primers from E.L.F. a while ago and I have been using them ever since. First off, your going to notice my eyelid primers are a different shape than what is online. That's only because I bought these in a set from Target quite a while ago. I payed $3 for three primers, making them $1 each, same as online. I've actually seen pretty decent reviews on the eyelid primer in nude, so I figured I'm not loosing out on much if they are horrible.

Left to right: Nude, Pearl, and Champagne.
blended in slightly.

 My Review:
My original Eyeshadow primer that I would use everyday was Too Faced Shadow Insurance or MAC Painterly Paint Pot. So if these worked for me, I would be saving some dough. For $1 each, I feel like these are not actually that bad. I actually really like them. Let's start off with the nude. Nude is my go-to for an all over base on my eyelid. I keep it in my makeup bag and use it the most out of the three. Now for Pearl, I tried using it for my entire lid, and didn't like the way it was making my shadow look. As you can tell from the swatch above, it has a bit of shimmer. So I tend to use Pearl for the tear duct area and where my highlight would go on my brow bone. Champagne is really lovely and probably my favorite of the three. Don't be fooled by the swatch on the E.L.F. website, they made it look more of a pink shade. It definitely does NOT look pink, far from it. More of a Light brown beige I would say. I use this when I use my Urban Decay Naked Palette. It makes the colors from that palette really stand out.

So overall, I enjoy these and they are only $1, so you can't go wrong. I don't have oily lids at all, so they blend really well and I didn't really have any trouble using them. Do they last all day long 24 hours? No. But I was able to have a normal day of using these with no prominent creasing or smearing. I wear my eye makeup for about 10 hours a day, and they did their job.

I hope you enjoyed this review! Let me know what eyeshadow primer you use! :)

  1. It really baffles me that the $1 version is better than the $3 mineral version... I tried the $3 one and it was TERRIBLE. But people say that the $1 one (and you) is fine... weird.

  2. Funny, I'm currently testing these and I've been asked for a review! I don't usually wear eye primer on a daily basis so that will be an interesting review to do. Great review and swatches!
